Forest and Yezo deer leather

I am currently working as a lecturer at the University of Tokyo. As I was thinking about monuments and materials for that design task, I became curious about the relationship between forests and civilization, so I read and researched various documents.

Many of the civilizations that began in Sumer shared their destinies with forests from birth to decline, and civilizations were born with forests, and died with the loss of forests. It springs up.

Since the Industrial Revolution, the main source of energy has shifted from trees to fossil fuels, and we rarely see trees being cut down as an energy source, as in ancient civilizations. However, looking at the world from a global perspective, deforestation continues, with excessive logging and burning of forests until they cannot recover in order to support the rapidly increasing population. Moreover, even in the familiar forests of Japan, deer and wild boars are increasing, and the bark of existing trees and newly planted saplings are being eaten, and the forest environment is becoming unsustainable.

See if there's something you can do yourself, and actively as part of a sustainable business. While thinking about it, I came across Ezo deer leather.

Yezo deer live throughout Hokkaido and are the largest subspecies of the sika deer. They have a strong reproductive power, and since humans have stolen their natural predators, wolves, they have increased to the point of completely destroying the vegetation of the forest. Therefore, in order to build a good symbiotic relationship between forests, Yezo deer, and people into the future, it is important to maintain an appropriate population. Since 2010, more than 100,000 Yezo deer have been captured each year to control the population. However, Yezo deer leather has scars unique to wild animals on the surface, and the supply is unstable.

We believe that we have a responsibility to take the life of Yezo deer because we killed wolves for our own reasons. So, the first thing I could do was make a SYRINX speaker using this Yezo deer leather.
About Yezo deer leather

SYRINX, which proposes a new way to use leather, does not waste the life of Hokkaido's bounty of nature, "Yezoshika", respects it, and uses it carefully until the end. We would like to expand the new possibilities of sika deer leather, let many people know its existence, and spread the effective use of sika deer leather to society.
