Vintage Mansion Renovation 5 Furniture
This article summarizes the materials used in the renovation of a vintage apartment . The last part is about furniture. (The photo shows the details of the handle carved from solid wood.)
| Solid walnut wood (strips)
For built-in furniture, we usually use plywood with a thin wood surface called veneer, but this time we used solid walnut. Even though it is solid wood, the surface area is quite large, so we used a board called a peeled board, which is made by gluing together two pieces of wide wood to widen it. It may be easier to imagine if you think of laminated wood as a wide board.
This solid walnut wood is dyed a subtle grey and then coated with urethane.
The appeal of solid wood is first and foremost its texture. It exudes a sense of luxury that even thick veneer cannot.
What is most striking is the beauty of the details. The solid feel of the handles and openings is something only solid wood can provide.
Like laminated timber, peeled boards are less likely to warp, but there is still a risk of warping depending on the conditions of use, so we only recommend them to those who understand this.
(Furniture made from a combination of solid wood and Corten steel)
|Corten steel
Furniture made of solid wood tends to be heavy and bulky in design. Therefore, this time, we combined iron plates for the top, side panels, and handles to create a sharp design. The material used is SuperCFC, a material made by a manufacturer called Front, which is made by treating Corten steel with phosphoric acid, lightly polishing it by hand, and applying a clear coat.

| Silestone
The kitchen countertop is L-shaped and was divided into two parts, with the larger part being the maximum size that can be transported by EV, 2400x1200mm. The material used is Silestone, a Spanish artificial stone.
Artificial stone made from quartz is hard and clean, making it an ideal material for kitchen countertops. Recently, there are many Aica and other similar products on the market, but Silestone and Caesarstone still have an edge when it comes to texture.
Another attractive feature is that it is available in large sizes up to 1400mm wide and 3000mm long.

|Range hood
Although it wasn't the material, we also paid particular attention to the range hood.
This apartment has a ceiling height of 2,400 mm and a concrete ceiling, so a prefabricated range hood would be installed too low.
The wall surface is made of large 1200x600mm tiles, with joints neatly spaced without any odd dimensions. It is impossible to match the tile layout with a pre-made range hood.
Therefore, we custom-made a range hood that was 1200mm wide, the same width as the tiles, and just 300mm high, with exhaust directed to the side.
(The range hood is perfectly aligned with the tile joints. Even the shadows cast by the downlights are aligned with the tile joints.)
There are still many points that I am particular about, but for now, this series will end here.
