Work in the forest

"Working in the forest" in the heart of Tokyo

|A vintage building on a cape

Mita 4-Chome, where our office was once located, was a place that Tokugawa Ieyasu called "Cape of the Moon."
Our current office is located on the opposite bank, at the tip of Shiba Park.
Nearby is the Shibamaruyama Kofun, a keyhole-shaped tumulus, and it is not difficult to imagine how spectacular it must have been when viewed from the sea.
Surrounded by ancient tombs, Zojoji Temple, greenery, and Tokyo Tower, this area is a special place where people's lives and prayers have intersected since ancient times.
The anchor building, the 32 Shiba Koen Building, was constructed by Takenaka Corporation in 1977 and was one of Mori Building's early numbered buildings. It injects a modern sensibility into the vintage architecture overlooking Tokyo Tower and Shiba Park.

|WORK IN THE FOREST

The lush greenery of Shiba Park spreads out before you, making you feel as if you are in a forest.
The main theme of this design was to bring this natural scenery indoors.
The central counter table has a glass top, and the green reflected in it continues onto the conference table and projection glass, spreading a green gradation throughout the entire space.
The desks are laid out in a U-shape, allowing employees to smoothly switch between concentrating and talking.

| Design considerations for invisible parts

To address the issue of wiring in a skeleton ceiling, a raceway was installed in the inner corner of the upper part of the wall, creating a system that allows wiring to be easily routed in and out freely.
All documents and catalogs are stored behind the doors, creating a minimalist space with no clutter in plain sight.

|The philosophy of Rubberwood and SYRINX

The new office also serves as the office for the leather brand SYRINX .
For this reason, we carefully select materials that have a story to tell, befitting a leather brand.
The rubberwood used in the furniture is made from discarded trees after rubber has been harvested, regenerated using Japanese technology.
As with the leather that SYRINX handles, the materials were selected based on the value of "upcycling by-products."
This time, in order to bring out the fine expression of the rubberwood, it is dyed a light white and the saturation and color unevenness are suppressed to create a highly aesthetic finish.

| Ezo deer leather and the cycle of life

The doors of the conference room furniture are made from Ezo deer leather certified by More Trees, a forest conservation organization headed by the late Ryuichi Sakamoto.
The Hokkaido deer population, which has lost its natural predators and continues to increase in number, is also a factor in deforestation, so we were impressed with the idea of making use of the animals' lives rather than wasting them, and decided to adopt the project.
The leather, which has been deliberately left with scars and bullet holes, gives you a sense of the weight of life and the connection to nature.

|Connected Table

The furniture has been systematised into 1m modules with an eye towards future reuse.
The conference table in particular has a unique structure in which a U-shaped steel frame is fastened with wooden beams, achieving extremely high rigidity while being simple and easily disassembled.
The design is also registered, and is highly functional with minimal elements, pursuing a minimalist style that is characteristic of our company and SYRINX.
