Tailor Made
Dressing the building in white
| The idea of "tailoring clothes" to buildings
"Tailor Made" is a renovation project that includes earthquake reinforcement for a 40-year-old clothing store.
The theme was to dress the building in new clothing, just as a person would wear tailored clothing.
| Correcting unevenness by weaving glass blocks
The existing façade was uneven, so we carefully filled in the gaps by using thick glass blocks.
New tiles have been applied to worn surfaces, giving the building a smooth new look.
| White clothing with a continuous pattern
All the tiles and glass blocks are made into a uniform module with a 150mm square shape, and by continuing the pattern throughout the entire building, we created a façade that looks as if it is wearing white clothing.
| The duality of day and night created by light
By installing lighting behind the glass blocks, the town takes on a different look at night than it does during the day.
The quietly shining light gives the building a new rhythm and presence.
