steps
A skip-level floor made up of black and white rectangular blocks
| A home where two volumes intersect, black and white
Steps is a house composed of two rectangular volumes, one black and one white.
The white volume is two stories above ground, while the black volume is half basement and two stories above ground. The difference in height between the two volumes creates a sense of continuity in the space through the split-level floors.
| Skips create ambiguous spatial connections
The floor heights of each floor are staggered, creating space for line of sight and movement, blurring the boundaries between spaces and creating a sense of unity throughout the space.
This creates a living space that is gently connected without being closed off.
| A complex experience born from a simple structure
Although the structure is extremely simple on the ground level, the cross-sectional structure, which ranges from the semi-basement to the rooftop, makes the spatial experience complex and diverse.
The contrast of black and white colors and the stepped structure create a home that brings variety and depth to life.
