red plum blossoms under snow
A layer of snow enveloping the crimson
| On SPIN's comeback in Japan
This work is a special covering designed for the exhibition to commemorate the revival in Japan of Fritz Hansen's "SPIN" chair, which was discontinued in 2007.
We attempted to breathe new life into this chair from a uniquely Japanese perspective.
| The aesthetic sense embodied in "Yukishita Benibai"
The title, "Red Plums Under the Snow," is one of the colors of the twelve-layered kimono, and represents red plums blooming beneath the snow.
The chair embodies the powerful yet fleeting Japanese view of nature, which evokes signs of spring even in the bitter cold.
| Four layers of white lace enveloping the crimson
The covering is made of deep red fabric wrapped in four thin, soft pieces of lace.
The way the faint red peeks through the layers of white exudes both delicate beauty and strength, like red plum blossoms breathing beneath the snow.
| Emotions reflected in colors, timeless sensibility
A uniquely Japanese sense of color and emotional expression that has been passed down since the Heian period.
The "arrangement" worn on "SPIN" is the very embodiment of the Japanese aesthetic sense, expressing the transitions of nature and the emotions contained within them through color.
