Lattice
Diagonal pillars open, providing openness and earthquake resistance
| Bring the park scenery indoors
Lattice is a wooden house located in a residential area on a cul-de-sac, bordering a park at the rear.
The main theme of this plan was how to incorporate this rich back environment into the building.
The units are based around one room per floor, and are designed so that you can enjoy a view of the park no matter where you are.
| A composition that revolves around gaze and light
The high ceilings on each floor, the open stairwells, the windows that can be fully opened, and the skylights all help to create a space with a continuous line of sight and light.
In particular, the top floor takes advantage of the roof slope to create a loft with a ceiling height of 3,600 mm, creating an open space.
| Achieving both structure and openness with "diagonal columns"
The house's iconic "diagonal pillar" is a structural element that functions as a substitute for an earthquake-resistant wall.
The exterior wall on the side of the stairwell, which is an open space, was left unwalled, and diagonal columns were unevenly positioned to ensure earthquake resistance while achieving a sense of spaciousness and transparency.
| Simplicity in materials and finishes
The interior is made of white wallpaper and heat-treated ash flooring, finished with beeswax.
Structural plywood and lauan plywood are used for fittings and furniture, making the most of the texture of natural materials while keeping costs low.
Details have been stripped away as much as possible to create a clean impression.
| The continuity of the bathroom and the space, like an objet d'art
The second floor bathroom in particular is a delicate space, located between the bedroom and the park.
The washbasin, bathtub, linen closet, dressing table, etc. are all grouped together as a single piece of furniture and finished with the same tiles to create a unified space.
With minimalist framing and continuous sight lines, the park scenery reaches deep into the space, creating a tranquil and open home.
