| CONCEPT

This is a three-story house, located in the middle of Tokyo. Buildings surround the site. We designed openings as slits on the exterior, in order to keep a calm environment inside the house. We used white for interior design and black for exterior. The contrast between these two created a firm space. We placed the courtyard, stairs and the grating bridge in the middle of the house; the interior spaces seem as if they are stretching to each other both horizontally and vertically. As a result the space is felt larger than its real hugeness. Every room is lighted and ventilated. The approach is through the light court on the first floor. Spaces are visually extending to each other by designing high ceilings on the second floor. The skylight enters the rooms on the third floor through the side light windows. In the limited area of the site, we were able to create a visually continuous space.
